It is an independent
garden within Beihai Park. Hao and Pu were the names
of two rivers in ancient China. Great philosopher
Zhuang Zi stood by the Hao River and said to Huishi,"Fish
come out and they are very happy." Huishi asked,"You
are not fish. How do you know the fish are happy?"
Zhuang Zi replied,"You are not me. How do you
know I do not know the fish are happy?" This
garden was built in memory of Zhuang Zi's remarks.During
the Qing Dynasty the emperor and his wives often
came here to watch fish.Emperor QianLong gave banquets
to high court officilas.

The small house has only three sections.
The courtyard in front of it is filled with rockeries
and plants. A Chinese scholartree is Qian Long once
took a rest under it and Emperor Guang Xu (reigning
between 1875 and 1908) often came here to read.
